Has the deal been done at Synseal?

You’re probably all aware that Mr Dutton, that’s Gary not Nick was reported to have put his company up for sale, or was at least looking at it.

The other key players have over the last few years moved away from Synseal Kevin Harvey to Avocet as MD, he’s a good guy straight talking and always had the time to talk to a  minnow like me! , and Nick Dutton is focusing on his door business..

I heard a bit of gossip last week (it is gossip at this stage, you know how double glazing industry works) that Gary Dutton had actually sold the company, again not sure if this is true.

But why sell Synseal, with the market as it is Synseal are the leaders for market share and they have done this through excellent advertising campaigns and turning the conservatory market on its head with such a simple idea, making everything roof and frames from the same profile. To the consumer it makes perfect sense.

Synseal have come along away in a very short time, from widely being thought of as the cheap end of the industry to the forefront with a good product.

The reason they’ve put themselves in this situation was they were the first in the category to be known to do the concept of a “complete conservatory” there were other companies selling roofs and other companies selling frames but no one selling both as a perfectlt matched item. Synseal came into an old market with an industry first and really it is that single key element that made them famous.

But why sell?     Mr Dutton (Gary that is not NIck) is obviously a very intellgent man (although Nick is probably intelligent too, and I wouldn’t argue with him as he is sizeable), but let’s look at it, he’s got the market share undoubtedly, the Palmer report says the Market is going to shrink by 25% by 2012 is Mr Dutton (Gary that is not Nick) thinking it’s about time to cash in his chips.

Brian Kennedy is aggresively changing the thought process of Ultraframe (someone had to) and he’s making some really good changes in the company, he also owns a few other roofing companies perhaps it’s time for Synseal to have a major competitor again and it looks like it may be coming in the form of an old adversary.

These are just a few questions which I’ve been thinking about, it would be great to get some answers back, I may be shooting so wide of the mark it’s unbelievable, but please feel free to comment.

  2. Why thank you good sir. We aims to please..

  3. Spot on about how synseal got there. Why cash in yet there’s still on an 18% penetration in uk of conservatories. Will BK buy that one up as well, who knows.

  4. If there’s anyone one out there with the money at the mo it’s definately Brian Kennedy, and just think what he would have a total domination of the conservatory roof market, and also a profile manufacturer to supply all his window companies, he could mix and match roof styles taking the best bits from one and mixing it with the other, but then in the end would he care, as we’d have to all buy our roofs from him one way or the other.

The only other real option would be Quantal.

If I was BK I’d definately have a crack at it.
